The Seniors Education on University of the Third Age like a Form of Active Aging Itself

This bachelor thesis is focused on education within University of the Third Age as one of the often mentioned activities which have some positive effect on the older people within support of active aging. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to understand the of older people´s motivation to study the University of the Third Age. This thesis consists of two parts, the theoretical and empirical part. Theoretical part consists of four chapters. Chapter one is devoted to old age, aging, active aging, lifestyle and leisure time of older people. The second chapter focuses on social and intergenerational contacts and barriers in the lives of older people. The third chapter presents an overview of education of older people and their motivation to study. The fourth chapter deals with institutions that ensure education for the older people and information and communication technologies. In the second part, empirical, we will find the goal of the bachelor's thesis, which is to find out how older people are motivated to study at the University of the Third Age. In order to obtain an in-depth description of this issue, a qualitative research strategy was chosen in this bachelor's thesis. We will also find the main research question here, which is: What is the benefit of education at University of the Third Age for older people? To answer the main research question, partial research questions and other supplementary questions have been set. The semi-structured interview technique was chosen as the method of questioning for collecting necessary data. The sample consisted of older people attending the University of the Third Age in the South Bohemian Region. Based on the data obtained, the results are then analyzed. The research has found that seniors have many reasons to study at University of the Third Age, including gaining new knowledge, experience and personality development. Social contacts have a very important role for seniors, they finds new friends, with whom they spend their free time, share their life experiences and motivates each other in their personal lives and studies. The study has a positive effect on the seniors physical and mental condition. As part of the evaluation, studying for seniors brings many benefits, including strengthening memory, gaining new information and finding new leisure activities.
